The Rockcliffe Outhouse

Go In Style

You know you're in a real estate bubble when all $250,000 buys you is two bathrooms.

Rockcliffe Park is home to some of Ottawa's finest, and most expensive, houses and, as it turns out, washrooms. The NCC recently built this public washroom at the Rockcliffe Lookout for $250,000.

The masonry stonework and cedar shingles are intended to match a nearby pavilion -- no aluminum siding for this neighbourhood. Here's how that quarter million was spent:

  • $187,000 for the actual structure
  • $32,000 for services
  • $10,365 for the architect
  • the balance for paths and parking

The washroom is closed in the winter.
